Feng Shui

Feng Shui, the ancient Chinese practice, or, as some believe, the science of balanced and harmonious living, has a large following all over the world. It is based on the universal energy “Qi” and balance in nature “Ying Yang”. The practice of Feng Shui is said to make use of laws of Heavenly bodies, and those of the earth to achieve better ways of life, in life and the Death.

The placement of constructions and burial sites in early historical civilizations in China suggest the practice is as old as 4000 years BCE or more. Various implements such as Astrolabe (monitoring the movement of astral bodies), Luopan and Shinan Zen (south pointing Spoons), and a variety of Charts were used to achieve the effects of Feng Shui.

Modern practice of Feng Shui is centered on that developed by Thomas Lin Yung Rinpoche, and is known as Black Sect or BTB Feng Shui in the USA. Another form of practice that has been developed by Harrison G.Kyung is known as Shen Dao, a UK based sect. Apart from these there are many variants as well, as Feng Shui is practiced fairly widely in some form or other, in the Orient and almost every part of Asia.

A common thread running in all Feng Shui practices is a need to strike a balance in life with the Universe, Earth, and the Elements, a concept running in parallel with the current trends of Sustainability, Alternative Energy and other Green Practices.

The modern Feng Shui Practitioner places great emphasis on the living and working environment, for better living, a healthier life, wealth, and achieving one’s goals. Bagua (the eight phases) is carefully assessed in the places of dwelling. Placing of Furniture, Objects, and effects is analyzed to avoid bad Qi. Bedrooms, Bathrooms and Kitchens are given much attention, as these are essential components in modern human civilization, and as such have a great influence in one’s well being and economy. The practice of Feng Shui is widely gaining popularity even among less firm believers for the sheer aesthetics and green practices involved.
